The IGDC was held this year during Nov 13-15th. During these days, game developers from all over the country (and abroad) gathered at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) to discuss their victories and defeats, ways and means, sadness and joys. Speaking of sadness, a lot of game developers have been laid off this year. This has been a point of discussion during the conference as well.

Investor – Publisher connect – which allows developers to get funding also took place. A lot of attention was being given to funding sources this year.
Government officers were in attendance – most seemed to be pitching their state as a destination for investment and studios to open their operations in.
Top games in their respective categories were rewarded on the second day – the following is a list of the winners – https://indiagdc.com/awards/

The entry fees this time around was quite high – INR 4750 for a regular entry. As a result, some people who wanted to attend, especially those new in the game development space, could not afford. Some organizations offered scholarships/free tickets which did help some attendees.
The Indie corner was small and overcrowded. The booths were allotted for free/on a subsidized rate, however, due to cramped spaces many people who had come to attend couldn’t visit all booths.

A game that seemed quite interesting from said Indie corner was Palm Sugar (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2778220/Palm_Sugar_A_Village_Story/). The game plays like a 2D version of Indian movies – full of action, romance, comedy and masala. Hopefully, more great games will come out of India because of conferences like these.
